I am alive…

Hello to everyone still monitoring my trip. As the title says – I am alive. The schedule has been rather hectic and I haven’t had time to blog as much as I would have liked… for that, I apologize. Today I was in Hiroshima. As an educator, I feel this is a trip every student everywhere should make – though I realize it’s less than practical. It is almost impossible to put into words what it meant to be standing in the city… hopefully some of the pictures I took will convey the feelings. Tomorrow morning (Japan time) I head to Soka – this is where I will be going into schools, meeting students and doing my homestay visit. It also means a new hotel – apparently one not quite as glamorous as my Tokyo digs – though I am hopeful to have internet access. There’s down time tomorrow – so expect many blog entries with pictures. To my students – I have purchased some souveniers for you (and I am doing my best to follow your requests), so know that you are not forgotten. Finally – to my colleagues at DY Prep – if you were wondering how much art students get in Japan – the answer appears to be very little… I will try to confirm this next week when I get in the schools. It is interesting that I would consider learning how to write the symbols in the Japanese alphabet artistic, but apparently it’s much more practical than that. Cultural diffference. Ok – that’s all for now. As I said, expect a lot tomorrow if I have internet access (I remain optimistic).
